The Team
Forming faith is all about teamwork. So here at formedfaith, we have a team!
Jonathan Sargeant
I'm the Director of Lay Education, working from St Francis College at Milton. I'm trained as a teacher and a youth and children's worker and spent seven years as a high school chaplain.
After that, I worked for the diocese for 18 years, training and supporting RE teachers and chaplains. That's a long time! I did my masters in the area of religious education, faith formation and the intersection of those with popular culture.
Now I'm doing doctoral research in my 'spare' time.
My ministry is to assist parishes with faith education and formation. Oh, and I get to review movies for FOCUS, our diocesan magazine. I like doing that!

I am the Lay Education Projects Officer, which means I also work at St Francis College, on our wonderfully diverse and challenging range of education projects. Working here is like coming home, as I trained at St Francis College to be a Youth Minister, and then went on to be a Secondary School teacher in English, History and Religious and Values Education. (However, secretly, my real passions were volleyball and canoeing!)
After 10 years of classroom teaching around Brisbane, during which I continued youth ministry on a voluntary basis, I concentrated on curriculum development, working with the ITC publications group and various others.
I hope that my contributions to Lay Education will equip people to grow in their understanding and experience of faith, mission and ministry. We all need the time and opportunity to sort out our questions, and to learn from our companions-on-the-journey.
