Dear readers,
In this Easter week, we join Anglicans around Australia as the Hope 25 Season begins, and are invited to give thanks for the life, work and witness of Pope Francis. In Archbishop Jeremy’s message Remembering Pope Francis, he speaks of Pope Francis’ recent writing about hope and his calling to us as Christians to be both restless and joyous.
At St Francis College, May begins with an ecumenical candle vigil at 6 pm on 1 May for those who suffer domestic and family violence. On 7 May, four people will graduate from the four-year St Francis Spiritual Direction Formation Program at an afternoon Eucharist in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit following a retreat time of prayer and reflection. The Brisbane University of Divinity Graduation will be at 4 pm on Friday 30 May at St John’s Cathedral. On this occasion the Rev’d Canon Dr Greg Jenks will receive an honorary doctorate and give the occasional address. For more details see University of Divinity Graduation — Saint Francis College. On Saturday 31 May, St Francis College will host an Open Day in the morning with presentations by both staff and students providing an opportunity to learn more about study options with the University of Divinity at St Francis College. Please share with those who may be interested and register here for catering purposes - Open Day 2025. In the afternoon there is an opportunity for those exploring a vocation to ministry to attend the seekers afternoon hosted by the vocations team. Please invite anyone interested to register here: Seeker's Day 2025 — Saint Francis College. In June, St Francis College will host the inaugural Liturgy Winter School and all Liturgical Assistants, Lay Ministers and clergy are invited to attend the Liturgy Winter School. Please register here: Liturgy Winter School — Saint Francis College. In July, Bishop Chris McLeod will come to Brisbane to teach an intensive in Aboriginal Culture and Spirituality. Bishop Chris is the Aboriginal Bishop for the Anglican Church of Australia and has just been appointed to the Council of the University of Divinity. There are a number of audit spaces available for this course if you would like to participate for interest and awareness without seeking credit.
May we be blessed with restlessness and joy in this Easter Season of hope,

A New Melody for Old Bishopsbourne
In February 2024, Old Bishopsbourne faced an unexpected challenge when an overnight heavy rainstorm caused flooding through the building. Among the affected items was the grand piano, an instrument that had filled the building with music for decades. Despite every effort to dry it out, the water had already done the damage.
Repairing and repolishing the old grand piano was going to cost more than it was worth, leading to the decision to embrace the future with a new Roland GP6 electric baby grand piano. This modern instrument is easier to move, opening up exciting possibilities for it to be played on the veranda and lawn, bringing a fresh wave of music and joy to Old Bishopsbourne.
The Roland GP6 offers a blend of classic elegance and modern technology. It features Piano Reality Modeling, which recreates the sound and feel of an acoustic grand piano, providing rich, expressive tones. The PHA-50 Hybrid Keyboard combines wood and molded materials for a natural feel and durability, with progressive hammer action for authentic touch. Additionally, the Elegant Baby Grand Cabinet offers the look and presence of a traditional grand piano with a more compact footprint.
Connectivity is enhanced with Bluetooth, allowing for wireless connection to apps and devices for learning, recording, and more. The Top Lid and Retractable Cover open for broader sound projection and protect the keys when not in use. The Piano Reality Projection sound system utilizes five speakers, discrete amplification, and advanced sonic processing to deliver immersive sound.
While it was bittersweet to say goodbye to the old grand piano, we are excited about the new opportunities to make the new piano available for hire for functions, filling the function room, veranda, and lawn with beautiful music. This new chapter promises to bring a fresh wave of music and joy to Old Bishopsbourne.

2025 Formation for Ordained Ministry: Learning in Community to Serve in Community
The 2025 Formation year kicked off with twelve students: six newcomers and six returning. The program focuses on four key areas:
- Academic Study at St Francis College
- Ministry Formation with an emphasis on Missional Leadership
- Field Education in parishes or chaplaincies
- Personal Development
These areas are integrated through Theological Reflection, Reflective Praxis, and Peer Conversations.
In February, the students met for the first time, concluding the weekend with the St Francis College Commencement Service. Contributions from Archbishop Jeremy, Tim Reid, and Rob Bates were greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, the March retreat was cancelled due to Cyclone Alfred.
In April, the students gathered at the Cathedral for the Chrism Mass, renewing their baptismal promises and exploring their call to ordained ministry.
Looking ahead, May will see the Director of Discernment and the Director of Formation attending a two-day conference in Adelaide. This event will focus on sharing best practices for Formation for Ordained Ministry across dioceses, ensuring consistency in training, and developing transferable skills. This informal network aims to enhance collaboration in training and formation now and in the future.

College Keys
Greetings all past students and graduates of St Francis College,
We are so happy to be connecting with you as you move on in your professional and spiritual life.
One of the great things about studying at St Francis College is the access to our lovely grounds and buildings. This is the thing that unites our students across the board.
We would like to extend the privilege of full College access to all our current students so they can enjoy that access too. To help with this, if you still have a college key in your possession, please return it for use by a new student. You can do this in several easy ways:
- Visit the College and give it to Tim on the front desk in the Administration building.
- Pop it in an envelope and mail it to St Francis College, PO Box 1261, MILTON, Qld 4064
- Or bring it to Synod and give it to Rod or Linda at the St Francis College stall, or to another staff member around at the time!
We appreciate your help with gathering the keys in, so we can help all our current students enjoy the best that College has to offer. Peace and joy!

Exciting Opportunity: Participate in the 2025 Psalms Trial!
We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity to participate in the 2025 Psalms Trial. Matthew Anstey, who taught a well-received class on the Psalms with us in 2024, is preparing translations for the 10 psalms used in this trial.
Information about the 2025 Trial: As is typically the case with new liturgical resources, trials are run to gather feedback about the proposed work. The Psalms Advisory Committee is overseeing this process, and the first trial will run in 2025 for 7 weeks starting on Trinity Sunday.
Churches, schools, and ministry centres across Australia are invited to participate in the trial by using the Anstey Psalter psalms in place of their usual psalm, in accordance with the licence agreement. Congregations are encouraged to use the psalms in the way they normally do – reading out loud, reading antiphonally, reading with a sung response, chanting, and so forth. If they have a choir, they are welcome to trial the original musical compositions composed for the Anstey Psalter.
Don't miss this opportunity to be part of this significant liturgical development.
