Profile
Revd. Canon Dr Christy Capper is currently the Canon for Discipleship in the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle where she works to encourage growth in mission, Christian education, and training within the diocese where her previous experience in theological education helps to shape lay education and spiritual growth.
After completing her undergraduate degree she worked at Macquarie University and later at the University of Newcastle in on-campus missional roles engaged in evangelism, discipleship, and leadership-training. In 2009 she moved to Victoria, where she began studying theology and working as a Youth and Young Adults Minister in Southeast Melbourne. Christy completed awards at Tabor Victoria before studying for ordained ministry at Trinity College Theological School where she also completed her doctoral work.
Christy’s research has centred on theological anthropology, considering the theological imperative to authentic selfhood. Her work now builds on this idea of discipleship and Christian growth as becoming the person that you are called to be.
Christy has previously worked at Uniting College for Leadership and Theology as the Director of Missiology and Vice-Principal and at Wollaston Theological College as Lecturer in Systematic Theology, Academic Dean, and Deputy Warden.
In addition to her current roles Christy is also the President of ANZATS (the Australia New Zealand Association of Theological Studies), a member of the Mission and Ministry Commission of the Anglican Church of Australia, and a member of the Anglican Communion Commission on Evangelism and Discipleship.
